Are you struggling with hearing loss? Have you experienced challenges in communication with loved ones? Cochlear implants may be the solution you need.
As one of the few clinics in eastern Montana that specialize in programming and performing candidacy evaluations for cochlear implants and bone-anchored hearing aids, we are here to support you on your journey to better hearing.
How Do Cochlear Implants Work?
External Components:
A microphone captures sound from the environment.
The processor converts sound into digital signals.
The transmitter sends these signals to the implant.
Internal Components:
The implant receives the signals and converts them back into electrical impulses.
These impulses stimulate the auditory nerve, allowing you to "hear" sounds.
1
Degree of hearing loss
Cochlear implants are typically recommended for individuals with severe to profound hearing loss in one or both ears — especially when traditional hearing aids are no longer providing enough benefit. During your evaluation, our audiologists will measure how well you can detect and understand speech to determine if a cochlear implant could improve your hearing outcomes.
2
Previous hearing aid usage
Your experience with hearing aids plays a key role in determining candidacy. If you've been consistently using properly fitted hearing aids and still struggle to follow conversations or engage in daily life, you may be a strong candidate for a cochlear implant. We'll review your hearing aid history and performance to help guide the decision.
3
Overall health
While cochlear implant surgery is typically low-risk, your general health and medical history will be considered during the evaluation. This ensures the procedure is safe and that recovery will be smooth. We’ll collaborate with your primary care provider or ENT specialist if needed to make sure you’re a good fit medically.
4
Motivation for using a cochlear implant
A successful cochlear implant journey also depends on your motivation and commitment to the process. This includes learning how to use the device, attending follow-up programming appointments, and participating in any recommended rehabilitation. If you're ready to actively participate in improving your hearing, that’s a big step in the right direction.
You can rest assured that your cochlear implant expert will take the time to explain the evaluation process, address your concerns, and guide you through each step.
